LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved the launch of the Chief Minister Punjab Rehmat Card, a new welfare initiative aimed at supporting widows and orphaned children who lack parental care.
The decision was made during a meeting chaired by the chief minister on Thursday to review measures for the welfare of vulnerable segments of society. Special Assistant for Ushr and Zakat, Rashid Nasrullah, briefed the meeting about the details of the project.
According to the briefing, financial assistance of up to Rs100,000 will be provided under the programme. In the first phase, more than 40,000 deserving families across the province are expected to benefit. Authorities plan to launch the initiative immediately after Eid.
Under the scheme, widows and orphaned children will receive Rs25,000 each to support their financial needs. Eligible applicants will be able to submit applications for the Rehmat Card through multiple channels, including a mobile application, web portal, call center, or the Zakat office.
Speaking at the meeting, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said that every citizen has a rightful share in Punjab’s resources, and the government will utilize all available means to ensure assistance reaches those who truly deserve it.
She emphasized that the Rehmat Card programme aims to empower widows by helping them move toward self-employment and financial independence.
“Punjab is a province where every citizen is cared for,” she said, adding that the initiative will help widows and orphaned children lead dignified and financially stable lives.
