CM’s Adult Cardiac Surgery Initiative to Provide Over Rs3bn In Free Treatment Annually

LAHORE: The 110th meeting of the Board of Directors of the Punjab Health Initiative Management Company was held under the chairmanship of Provincial Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique to review ongoing health initiatives in the province.

During the meeting, officials briefed participants on projects launched under the leadership of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. The minister said that under the Chief Minister’s Adult Cardiac Surgery Programme, free heart surgeries worth over Rs3 billion annually will be provided, with coverage of up to Rs1 million per patient.

Officials said around 14,000 patients are currently on waiting lists in cardiac institutions. Government hospitals will serve as primary treatment centres, while referrals to private hospitals will be made through a multidisciplinary team.

The meeting was also informed that 1,344 transplants have been carried out under the Chief Minister’s Special Initiative for Transplant Programme, while more than 1.41 million patients have received free dialysis under the Chief Minister’s Dialysis Programme.

Secretary of the Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Department Punjab Azmat Mahmood directed that patients in empanelled hospitals should be provided maximum facilities and their issues resolved on priority.
