LAHORE: Healthcare institutions across Lahore marked World Hepatitis Day (28 July) with free screening camps, awareness walks, and seminars focused on prevention and early detection.
At the Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute & Research Centre, officials highlighted that over 15 million people in Pakistan live with hepatitis B and C. Experts stressed that timely diagnosis and specialized liver care are critical to preventing severe complications.
Meanwhile, Shaikh Zayed Hospital launched Pakistan’s first multilingual social media awareness campaign alongside a seminar and screening camp. Experts described viral hepatitis as a “silent disease” because infected individuals often remain symptom-free until advanced liver damage occurs. They emphasized that the condition is preventable through vaccination, safe injections, and proper screening.
Additionally, a private hospital organized an awareness walk led by Chief Operating Officer Dr. Ayesha Nauman. Doctors, nurses, and medical students participated, carrying placards to promote liver health education and encourage the public to get tested.
