LAHORE: The Punjab government has finalized preparations to introduce the Punjab Prohibition of Child Labour at Brick Kilns Rules 2026 to completely eradicate minor employment across provincial brick kilns. The Labour Department has submitted the official draft to the Punjab Cabinet, and the regulations are scheduled to take effect immediately upon final approval.
Under the proposed framework, brick kiln owners will face rigorous legal restrictions explicitly banning the employment of children.
The guidelines introduce a systematic monitoring process to compile and verify comprehensive records of workers and their dependents, alongside precise mechanisms to verify minor ages and detect violations.
Labor inspectors are being granted explicit duties to conduct routine facility inspections, investigate public grievances, and initiate clear legal consequences for non-compliance.
Furthermore, the framework boosts collaborative efforts between local administrations and the Labour Department while integrating public awareness campaigns to highlight the hazards of child labor.
