LAHORE: Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique on Monday inaugurated the state-of-the-art Biosafety Level-III (BSL-III) Laboratory at the Department of Faisal Masood Biomedical Sciences, King Edward Medical University (KEMU).
During his visit, the minister inspected the extraction and post-extraction laboratories, autoclave facility, ELISA, DNA and RNA laboratories. Dr. Nighat Yasmin briefed him on the laboratory’s advanced facilities. The project has been established at a cost of Rs100 million.
Speaking on the occasion, Khawaja Salman Rafique said the Punjab Government is committed to providing the best healthcare facilities in public sector teaching hospitals. He added that, in line with the vision of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the government is strengthening the healthcare system through modern infrastructure and advanced medical technologies.
The minister highlighted that the new BSL-III laboratory is equipped to conduct gene sequencing and advanced research on infectious diseases, including COVID-19, significantly enhancing the province’s diagnostic and research capabilities.
