Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif launched a flood rehabilitation drive, announcing that Rs 100 billion will be distributed among families and individuals affected by recent floods. The initiative aims to provide immediate relief and support for reconstruction in the hardest-hit areas.

Addressing attendees at a camp set up in Dipalpur, Okara, CM Maryam said, “We are distributing the first cheques today,” as relief cards were issued to flood victims to enable them to receive aid without standing in long queues.

She emphasized that the rehabilitation drive is fully funded by the Punjab government’s own resources, adding, “I did not ask for assistance from the rest of the world… I did not ask anyone for help.” CM Maryam noted that relying on provincial resources reflects the self-respect and dignity of the people of Punjab.

The Punjab government had previously announced the issuance of relief cards to ensure smooth and efficient disbursement of aid, demonstrating a model of transparent and timely governance in the wake of natural disasters.
