LAHORE: A fresh surge in dengue infections has been reported across Punjab, with 68 new patients confirmed in the past 24 hours, including 15 from Lahore.
According to the Health Department, the province has so far recorded 3,171 dengue cases this year, of which 582 are from Lahore. Officials warn that the actual count may be higher as suspected cases continue to surface in private hospitals.
Experts link the rise to stagnant rainwater, poor sanitation, and uncovered water containers, which have created breeding grounds for mosquitoes in several areas, including Samanabad, Gulberg, Allama Iqbal Town, and Cantt.
Provincial Health Minister Khawaja Imran Nazir urged citizens to follow preventive measures, cooperate with field teams, and ensure cleanliness at homes and workplaces. He said that larvae eradication and surveillance activities have been intensified to curb the spread of dengue.
