Minister Reviews CRPD Performance, Pushes for Faster Implementation of 2022 Act

LAHORE: An important meeting chaired by Sohail Shaukat Butt, Provincial Minister for Social Welfare & Bait-ul-Maal Punjab, reviewed the performance and affairs of the Council on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

The meeting focused on accelerating the effective implementation of the Punjab Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities Act 2022 and its rules. Officials provided a comprehensive briefing on steps being taken to safeguard the rights and improve facilities for persons with disabilities (PWDs).

The minister directed authorities to enhance and expedite efforts to make buildings accessible, emphasizing that accessibility requirements should be incorporated at the initial stages of construction. He also stressed the need to strengthen coordination among relevant departments to ensure the development of inclusive and accessible infrastructure.

It was further decided to launch an awareness campaign on the rights of persons with disabilities and relevant laws, aiming to promote equal access and an inclusive mindset across society.

The meeting was attended by Director CRPD Muzammil Yar and other concerned officers.
