
LAHORE: Under the special initiative of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz, a distribution ceremony of wheelchairs and assistive devices for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) was held at the Directorate General Social Welfare & Bait-ul-Maal Punjab.
Provincial Minister for Social Welfare & Bait-ul-Maal Sohail Shoukat Butt graced the ceremony as the chief guest. Parliamentary Secretary Social Welfare Jaffar Ali Hocha MPA, Director General Social Welfare Tariq Qureshi, Additional Secretary Amina Munir, ADC Lahore Mudassar Nawaz, and senior officers of the department were also present on the occasion.
During the ceremony, assistive devices were distributed among 111 deserving Persons with Disabilities from Lahore district. The beneficiaries received various mobility aids, including manual and electric wheelchairs, tricycles, walkers, and other assistive devices.
Addressing the ceremony, Provincial Minister Sohail Shoukat Butt said that bringing Persons with Disabilities towards a dignified and independent life is a top priority of the Punjab Government. He added that the government’s vision of a “Disability-Free Punjab” is gradually taking practical shape through concrete welfare initiatives.

Provincial Minister personally visited the beneficiaries at their seats and interacted with them, reaffirming the government’s commitment to their wellbeing.
He further stated that, so far, a total of 12,245 assistive devices have been distributed across Punjab, reflecting the government’s strong resolve to support Persons with Disabilities. The provision of Himmat Cards, wheelchairs, and assistive devices is a significant step towards strengthening the concept of a welfare state in Punjab, he added.
