LAHORE: The Punjab government has announced a financial assistance programme for parents of children under the age of 18, aimed at encouraging the withdrawal of children from labour and their enrollment in education and skills training programs.
Under the initiative, families will receive financial support once children are removed from work and enrolled in formal education or vocational training. To ensure effective implementation, task committees have been formed to eliminate child labour across the province and develop a comprehensive action plan.
The government has also invited proposals to amend existing child labour laws to strengthen enforcement and close legal gaps.
According to officials, the task committees have been assigned more than 20 responsibilities, including digital mapping and geo-tagging of child labour cases, establishment of a dedicated helpline, and the creation of rehabilitation centers for affected children.
Additionally, a province-wide socio-economic survey will be conducted to determine monthly stipends for parents, aimed at supporting children’s education, rehabilitation, and overall development.
The initiative reflects the Punjab government’s renewed commitment to eradicating child labour and ensuring a safer, more equitable future for children.
