LAHORE: Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat on Saturday announced an extension in winter vacations for all public and private schools across the province in view of the ongoing cold wave and forecast of extremely low temperatures.
According to the announcement, schools will now reopen on January 19 instead of January 12. Officials said the decision was taken on the recommendation of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) to safeguard the health and well-being of students and teaching staff.
A day earlier, on Friday, the minister had stated that schools would reopen as scheduled on January 12 with no extension in winter vacations. However, the decision was revised on Saturday after reviewing weather conditions.
The education department advised parents and school administrations to follow official notifications for further updates regarding the reopening schedule.
